We recommend opting for natural exfoliants, which will not increase sensitivity to the sun, such as our Body Scrub for Smooth Skin. How do I achieve a natural, safe tan using sun care products?
To achieve a natural, safe tan, it is important to apply quality sun creams and facial sunscreens to avoid UV damage and premature fine lines or wrinkles. Look for sun care products which offer UVA and UVB protection. UVA protection defends skin against photoaging (such as leathery skin, pigmentation and wrinkles) and potentially skin cancer, whilst UVB protection can prevent sunburn and has strong links to protecting against skin cancer.
For the safest natural tan, opt for SPF30 and SPF50 sun care products for high protection whilst also achieving a tan. Make sure to apply frequently as per the guidelines of your sun cream, usually every two hours.
Note that sun care products have an expiry date and can lose their protective qualities after months of no use. For this reason, we recommend getting a new sun cream or face sunscreen prior to prolonged sun exposure (such as going on holiday) to ensure you are receiving the correct levels of protection.
