From Domaine Clarins
While every ingredient used in Clarins products is ethically and sustainably sourced, plants from Domaine Clarins maintain the highest level of responsible sourcing.
The Clarins private Domaine is a farm and living laboratory in Serraval, perched in the French Alps. Traditional farming methods like horse-drawn ploughs preserve the purity of the rich soil, ideal for growing concentrated plant actives. When it comes to sustainable beauty, you can’t do better than these products.

What is Domaine Clarins?
Domaine Clarins is an open-air laboratory and private farm, where we are inspired by regenerative agriculture to cultivate the highest quality plants in the most virtuous way possible. In the unpolluted environment of the French Alps, plants are grown at high altitudes, in harmony with the rhythms of nature, and enriched only with the natural substances used in organic farming.
Traditional farming methods are used to avoid damaging the delicate ecosystem of the soil, rich in the earthworms who naturally aerate the soil and keep it healthy. Regenerative agriculture goes beyond sustainable farming to actually improve the environment, and reinforce the soil and biodiversity through natural methods.
Based on what we’ve learned at Domaine Clarins, we’re aiming to produce 100% traceable and organic products, sourced from field to pot. This is our ultimate goal, reaching beyond Domaine Clarins, where this objective is already reached. Discover more about our Responsible Sourcing at Domaine Clarins.

Can you visit the Clarins Domaine?
Unfortunately, the Clarins Domaine is not open for public visits, although you can visit the stunning scenery of the surrounding French Alps. But you can discover the estate through this inspiring virtual tour.
Why doesn’t Clarins use only organic ingredients?
If you’re interested in learning more about sourcing sustainable ingredients, take a look at the Clarins Responsible Sourcing Policy. It’s based on criteria used for regenerative farming practices, which are even more stringent than those used for organic ingredients. To be compliant with regenerative farming, ingredients and processes have to actually protect the environment while working in harmony with local populations – a commitment aligned with Clarins’ values.
Having said that, Clarins prioritises plant extracts that use certified organic agricultural methods. Currently 59% of our Herbarium is made up of organic plants. We’re aiming for 80% by 2025.
For ingredients that are neither organically grown nor certified organic, we do our best to work with our suppliers to convert them to organic. In 2021 alone, we supported and confirmed 13 conversions to organic agriculture.
