Your moisturiser is an essential part of your skincare and beauty routine. The right face moisturiser for your skin type protects sensitive skin, improves skin tone and texture, and helps reduce redness and imperfections.

Moisturising your face also helps to lessen a phenomenon known as transepidermal water loss - this is the water that your skin loses throughout the day.

Moisturisers serve to create a protective layer on the surface of the skin, locking in moisture and safeguarding against damage from external sources such as stress, sun exposure and pollutants. By utilising facial moisturisers with SPF, you are not only rehydrating your complexion but also shielding it from any potential damage.

How do I apply moisturiser to my face?

How often should I apply my day cream or face moisturiser?

How often you should moisturise depends on your skin type. Typically, it is recommended to apply facial moisturiser twice a day: once in the morning with a day cream and again before bed with a night cream.

If your environment is cold and dry, this can lead to tightness or tension on your skin. Therefore, you should apply more moisturiser throughout the day. Also, if you do not pick a moisturising formula that includes SPF protection, make sure to wait at least 10 minutes for the cream to be absorbed before applying sunscreen.

How do I choose my day cream and night cream?

In addition to your cleanser and serum, your skincare and beauty routine should include two types of face moisturiser: a day cream and a night cream.

You should choose your moisturiser depending on your:

Skin factors - This includes skin age and skin concerns

Skin type - Is your skin dry, normal, combination or oily?

You should choose your moisturiser based on:

Should I choose a moisturiser with SPF?

The benefits of a face cream with SPF are endless! It offers significant advantages for the skin, mainly shielding it from UV radiation that can lead to fine lines and wrinkles, dullness and uneven discolouration.

Your SPF should be at least SPF15 so you protect your skin from sun damage. Even on cloudy days, sun damage to the skin can occur when the sun isn’t shining.
