1 Exfoliate your skin

Always exfoliate the day before self-tanning to refine and smooth the skin’s surface. This helps to eliminate dry skin cells and encourage an even, streak-free tan.

2 Moisturise

For best results the skin should be soft, smooth and hydrated. This will give the self-tanning product the best surface for an even, healthy looking finish.

3 Apply to the body

Apply self-tan in small amounts, with light sweeping movements, starting at the feet (avoid soles) and working your way up to the neck. Always apply very lightly over elbows, knees, ankles and heels.

4 Apply to the face

For a more natural look, avoid the eyebrows and hairline. Apply moisturiser to any areas you didn’t apply self-tan, then gently rub into the self-tanned areas to blend the colours and give a natural graduated colour.

5 Wash hands and nails

After applying fake tan, wash your hands and nails thoroughly and wash in between your fingers 2-3 times throughout application.

6 Dry off

Allow skin to dry completely for 30 minutes to 1 hour before swimming, exercising or wearing tight clothing. If using the Self Tanning Instant Gel you can dress straightaway.

7 Maintain your self-tan

For a darker result, apply more self-tan later in the day. To maintain a beautiful, radiant tan, reapply every three days and gently exfoliate skin once a week.

Will Clarins Self-Tanners turn my skin orange?

Clarins formulas contain two active ingredients – DHA & Erythrulose - in complementary colours for a natural-looking tan and even colour on all skin tones.

Natural

The colour created by the DHA reaction is more yellow and less red than natural skin colour. The addition of Erythrulose tempers the orange and produces a more natural-looking colour.

Even

Erythrulose spreads uniformly assuring good distribution of the colour.
How do I correct self-tan mistakes?

Don’t panic. Depending on your timing, you can adopt two different strategies to help fade and disguise any streaks.

Short of time

Try the make-up option. Use a liquid or compact foundation that matches your skin tone or is one shade lighter. Apply onto any streaks or mistakes on the skin.

Does a self-tanner protect against UV rays?

The colouring of the skin from a self-tanner does not protect skin against UV rays.

Unlike melanin pigments which form during sun exposure, melanoidins do not give protection against UV rays. You must use a protective sun care whenever you are in the sun.

Will self-tanners dry out my skin?
