Pelvetia Pelvetia canaliculata
Location:
France
The pelvetia is a small brown seaweed found on rocks along the Brittany coast, which grows in fine strips no longer than 10cm. This seaweed is spectacularly resilient and vigorous. In fact it can survive out of water for over two weeks and despite turning black and brittle, completely recovers after being immersed in water for just a few minutes. At low tide, it can survive a loss of 68% water without dying.
